About this opportunity:
The Project Controls & Turnaround Cost Control Lead is responsible for maintaining Project cost information database monthly to track Project Cost Performance against budget, committed, and incurred costs. The position will also be required to forecast baselines and report results to Management. The Cost Control Lead will assume a key role in the implementation of a standard project execution process that is aligned with the Project Delivery Model (PDM) process as well as the Cenovus Operational Integrity Management System (COIMS). This role will be working with both third-party contractors (engineering companies, vendors, contractors) and internal clients and requires strong customer service and communication skills to align with the needs of the individual project engineers and team/site leadership.
Throughout the life cycle of the projects, the Cost Controller liaises with various stakeholders such as: Project Planner, Portfolio Reporting, Project Engineering, Technical Engineering teams, Procurement, Finance, Construction and Commissioning Management Team, external EPC contractors and external construction contractors and therefore required to understand and communicate the full project scope of work. Work Environment:
This position is located in Lloydminster and requires the successful candidate to live in the area
What you'll do:
Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to labor, equipment, and materials (LEM's) ensuring compliance with Cenovus's Procurement Policy and practice
Follow up with SCM to make sure suppliers submit LEMs in a timely matter
Work with Contractors to resolve daily LEM issues and expedite resolutions
Review standard reports to identify resource utilization, project costs, and areas for improvement and prepare ad hoc reports as required
Ensure all Data is reported the same day to run cost reports
Who you are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
Legally authorized to work in Canada
Management of LEMs & cost control analysts
8 - 12 years of experience in cost control
8 -12 years of experience in finance; CPA is required & P Eng. is an asset.
Experience working on refinery or plant Turnarounds is highly desirable.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadline
Ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously
Proven experience in a similar role with expertise in forecasting
Strong analytical and data interpretation skills
Proficient in using Power BI, Open Invoice and SAP
Experience working in Primavera (P6) is highly desirable
Excellent communication, time-management, and organization skills
Proven industry experience in Oil & Gas

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.
For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
