The team:

Scotiabank's Global Technology Services - Enterprise Process Management & Compliance's IT Service Management (ITSM)'s Governance, Data Analytics & Reporting team gathers, interprets, and presents data insights at all management levels, including the Board of Directors, ITSM process owners & external regulators.

The role:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Analytics Technology & Engineering, you will be a senior technical contributor to the overall success of the ITSM by ensuring goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. The role conducts all activities in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

You will develop & maintain Data Engineering pipelines, Business Intelligence (BI), and analytics solutions. You will also complete engineering & architecture deliverables and provide technical consultation + direction to team members. The scope of solutions includes Windows / Web-based applications, complex workflows, automation scripts, Extraction, Transform & Load (ETL) solutions, Executive Dashboards, and much more. All solutions will be expected to follow technology policies, processes, and procedures. The role will also provide use cases and requirements to feeder-systems so that they may capture data for use by the ITSM team.

When required, you can expect to work into the evenings and/or weekends to complete deliverables.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

  • You can demonstrate above average communication (verbal/written) skills, which includes the ability to synthesize complex ideas from various sources.
  • You have at least 5+ years of hands-on technical working experience in the development and maintenance of data driven solutions, including conceptual & logical Data Modelling, Database Design, BI, ETL, and Data Visualization.
  • You have at least 3+ years of hands-on technical working experience as a Senior Data Engineer and/or Database Designer and/or Data Architect that involves performance tuning of both online queries & data driven ETL processes.
  • You have at least 3+ years of hands-on technical working experience in writing requirements, architecture documents, or other governance documents associated with application management.
  • You have at least 2+ years of hands-on technical working experience in the proficient creation of meaningful reports on MS Excel and/or MS PowerBI and/or MS Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) and/or MS Power Query.
  • You can demonstrate a strong hands-on technical working experience with most of the following: Python, R, VBA, or any Object-Oriented programming / scripting languages.
  • You have at least 2+ years of hands-on technical working experience with Agile methodologies and tools: Atlassian's Bitbucket/Git, Jira Confluence, etc…
  • You have at least 1+ years of hands-on technical experience with predictive analysis & Machine Learning.
  • You can troubleshoot BI modelling issues and develop solutions.
  • You can demonstrate the ability to lead through the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • The following skills would be an asset to your success in the role: Exposure to Large Language Models (LLM), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or other cloud technologies.
  • You have completed a post secondary education in Computer Science, Engineering, or in a technology related discipline.
