Reporting to the Director, Compliance & AML Risk Assessment Program, the Senior Manager contributes to the overall success of the Compliance & AML Risk Assessment Program globally ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
The Senior Manager implements, oversee, and contribute to the development of the Risk Assessment Activities including the Compliance Risk & Control Assessment (CRCA), the AML/ATF and Sanctions Risk Assessment (ASRA), AML/ATF and Sanctions Risk Rating Methodologies (Geography, Product, Industry and Occupation), AML/ATF and Sanctions Third Party Risk Management (AML TPRM) and/or New Initiative AML/ATF and Sanctions Risk Assessment (NIASRA). These activities are essential in evaluating the Regulatory Compliance, Money Laundering/Terrorist Financing and Sanctions Risk profiles of the Bank.


Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Provide support to the Director in developing and recommending enhancements to comprehensive risk assessment methodologies, shaping the tools for these assessments by integrating industry best practices and regulatory standards. Document methodologies, operating procedures, and standards where applicable.
  • Ensure the effective execution of risk assessment activities by developing training materials, fostering strong relationships with internal clients, and providing advice and counsel to relevant stakeholders to maintain program efficacy.
  • Oversee assessment outcomes to identify trends, drive adherence to procedures, and enable early detection and remediation of risk exposure to prevent instances of non-compliance, money laundering/terrorist financing, or breaches of global sanctions.
  • Understand how the bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of your respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We'd love to work with you if you have experience with:

  • A graduate degree in Business, Finance, Law, or a relevant Social Science (e.g., Economics).
  • At least 5 years of experience in a large financial institution or with financial regulators, including 3 years in risk management (Compliance Risk, Money Laundering/Terrorist Financing Risk, Sanctions Risk, Operational Risk, or related fields).
  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements, guidelines, and expectations.
  • Experience developing and maintaining reports for executive audiences, with data visualization skills.
  • Expertise in data analytics/data mining and the ability to interpret large data sets.
  • Proficiency with web-based applications and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), particularly for data analysis.
  • Experience with Governance, Risk, and Compliance systems (e.g., OpenPages, Archer).
  • Proven success in leading technology-based compliance projects.
  • Strong time management, project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop and implement solutions to complex issues.
  • ACAMs designation (or equivalent) preferred.
  • Spanish language skills (an asset).
