As part of Scotiabank Global Risk Management, the Market Risk group is at the forefront of managing the Bank's market risk capital and stress testing program in response to current regulatory & market changes and risk management initiatives. The group is responsible for the analysis of market risk exposure, through Value at Risk (VaR), Stress testing and capital, for the full suite of capital markets products.

The incumbent will support the team to ensure that enterprise market risk exposure is accurately measured and explained by the market movement and Bank's trading strategies. This role is ideal for a person familiar with capital markets and regulatory requirements with quantitative background and proven interest in market risk management. Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Collaborate with various groups, including business lines, finance, and other business partners, to identify capital enhancement opportunities and assess their feasibility and impact.
  • Enhance current data visualization tools (Power BI/Tableau) for capital-related analytics and reporting.
  • Support enterprise-level market risk monitoring by working with the market risk modeling and technology teams to improve data accuracy and process efficiency.
  • Prepare daily VaR and Stress testing reports among other periodic regulatory submissions; Additionally, develop and implement automated solutions to improve reporting efficiency.
  • Assist with the process documentation and RDARR requirements for market risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have experience with:

  • Strong knowledge of financial derivatives and familiarity with regulatory requirements on market risk capital.
  • Superior attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment under tight timelines.
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills with demonstrated accountability.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as SQL, VBA, and Python, with hands-on experience in PowerBI/Tableau.
  • A Master's degree in a quantitative subject such as Math, Finance, or Economics is required; a PhD degree is an asset.
  • Completion or progression in the CFA and FRM programs is considered an asset.
