Reporting to the Director, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, or designate, the Manager, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, will be responsible for implementing, and managing programs that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within the Bank of Nova Scotia. The Manager will ensure that all employees, regardless of their race, gender, age, sexual orientation, or disability status, feel valued and included. This role is highly cross-functional and essential in embedding DEI across all levels of the organization and meeting our duties, aims, and objectives with regards to a greater sense of belonging for all Scotiabankers.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

The Manager of DEI will be responsible for supporting the implementation of a Global Inclusion strategy. Specific responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Partner to implement the global strategy for diversity, equity and inclusion that aligns with the company's values, mission, and business goals.

  • Research, recommend, and drive creative, best in class DEI solutions aligned with business goals and assigned DEI portfolio(s) (where applicable).

  • Collaborate with DEI COE leadership to integrate and determine how to implement necessary enhancements into all aspects of the assigned portfolio(s) (where applicable).

  • Monitor, measure, and report on key metrics related to the Global diversity, equity and inclusion strategy, in relation to assigned portfolio(s).

  • Building relationships, provide strategic guidance and help to plan initiatives with employee resources groups and other relevant internal networks, in relation to assigned portfolio (where applicable).

  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to champion diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, in relation to assigned portfolio (where applicable).

  • Develop internal communications that would increase employee engagement and transparency regarding DEI initiatives.

  • Work closely with external partners, assistants, vendors, and other stakeholders to optimize partnership, in relation to assigned portfolio (where applicable).

  • Supports regulatory compliance requirements, including data collections and approvals, relevant to diversity, equity and inclusion, (and assigned portfolio, where applicable) across Canada including but not limited to Employment Equity Act (EEA), Accessible Canada Act (ACA), Workplace Equity Information Management System (WEIMS) and Bank Act revisions.

  • Coordinates and supports content collection and approval processes for development of key external regulatory disclosure publications including the annual Employment Equity Narrative Report, WEIMS submission, and DEI aspects of the ESG Report

  • Responsible for creation and submission, to VP, Global Inclusion, of Diversity Dashboards, representation figures and other diversity statistics/data for both Canadian and Global workforces, in relation to assigned portfolio(s).

  • Supports the VP, Global Inclusion with preparation and collection of DEI workforce representation data for the use in the All-Bank Inclusion Council, Human Capital Council, and other committees/councils, in relation to assigned portfolio or as assigned.

  • Stay abreast of legislation, regulations, reporting, and best practices related to DEI.

  • Review company policies to ensure compliance and promote best practices, when necessary

  • You drive a customer focused culture throughout the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

  • You understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Creates an environment in which the team pursues effective and efficient operations of respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Problem Solving Requirements

  • Standardized Problems: The Global Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Manager will often encounter standardized problems such as resistance to change, lack of awareness about diversity and inclusion, or dealing with biases. These problems require the manager to utilize established policies and guidelines, along with Leadership expertise, to address and resolve these issues.

  • Varied Problems: These may include dealing with unique cultural nuances in different geographical locations, addressing specific issues faced by equity deserving groups, or handling unique employee grievances related to equity and inclusion. The manager will need to partner with Leadership to devise appropriate solutions.

  • Interdependent Problems: The manager will often encounter situations where problems are interlinked and solutions for one might impact others. The manager will need to consider all these factors and ensure that the solutions implemented are holistic and do not negatively impact other areas.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • At least 3+ years of progressive, professional experience related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, anti-racism and decolonization in service delivery programs and workplaces. Experience leading and executing projects with a change management approach.

  • Strong consultation skills to use subject matter expertise to develop and deliver initiatives with consideration of best practices while aligning with Global Inclusion Strategy, assigned portfolio and overall business strategy.

  • Strong experience with data analytics

  • Experience in building and fostering strategic partnerships and relationships across teams/functions

  • Ability to manage, prioritize and reprioritize multiple tasks and initiatives with a focus on desired end-state.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to progress the DEI journey, build allyship and maximize collaboration across levels.

  • Fluent in Chinese, Spanish and/or French is an asset, but not a requirement.
