The position is for a Product Owner within the FRTB (Fundamental Review of the Trading Book) team, which is part of Market Risk. The team is responsible for calculating market risk regulatory capital for the bank, particularly for the trading book.
The candidate will work on system improvements, regulatory changes, and coordinating with various teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordination with multiple stakeholders, including Front Office, Middle Office, Risk Technology, Data Teams, and Reporting Teams.
- Requirement gathering and execution, working closely with Risk Technology to define and test system changes.
- Testing and validation, ensuring that new processes and system changes meet regulatory requirements.
- Participation in Agile processes, including daily stand-ups, planning meetings, and backlog refinements.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
- Market Risk knowledge (FRTB is preferred).
- 3-5 years of experience in a relevant role
- Project delivery experience, particularly in a development-focused environment.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Technical understanding, including creating test plans and validating system changes.
This role is located in Toronto with in-person office collaboration expected on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

As a member of the FRTB product team, the incumbent is primarily responsible for conducting in-depth analysis of FRTB capital and collaborating with stakeholder - including Front Office, Middle Office, Risk Technology, and other risk product teams - to identify and implement improvements in market risk capital calculations.
The incumbent is expected to work closely with technology partners and cross-functional product teams to drive implementation in an Agile environment by translating business solutions into technical requirements. Responsibilities include developing, executing, and validating test plans, and coordinating with stakeholders to ensure successful implementation according to plan.
Additionally, the incumbent will provide support for regulatory and audit reviews, ensuring compliance with evolving expectations and internal policies.

Supports development and execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders including product enhancements; Initiative areas can include intake, requirements, design, development, testing, simulation, sign-offs, production and post-implementation activities.
Ensures alignment between stakeholders.
Represents the risk systems management function during internal/external regulatory audits and/or examinations.
Coordinates the management of databases; ensures alignment and integration of data in adherence with data governance standards.
Breaks down strategic problems, and analyses data and information to provide insights and recommendations.
Builds change management plans of varying scope and type; leads or participates in a variety of change management activities including readiness assessments, planning, stakeholder management, execution, evaluation and sustainment of initiatives.
Guides/assists in the identification and classification of issues; recommends action plans.
Provides input into the planning and implementation of ongoing operational programs in support of the risk systems management.
Leads/participates in the design, implementation and management of core business/group processes.
Monitors the risk system technical infrastructure, applications and/or business transactions across the environment.
Collaborates with Technology service providers and other stakeholders to investigate, perform root cause analysis and plan corrective actions; follows production environment support processes and guidelines.
Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to deliver on business objectives.
Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
Ensures alignment between stakeholders.
Monitors and tracks performance and addresses any issues.
Tracks metrics and milestones, makes recommendations for resolution and escalates as appropriate when issues arise.
Analyzes data and information to provide insights and recommendations.

Qualifications:
Typically between 3 - 5 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
In-depth knowledge of risk system management concepts and applications.
In-depth knowledge & experience with risk policy frameworks; quality control / testing frameworks, omics.
Deep knowledge and technical proficiency gained through extensive education and business experience.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.
