Career Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity in our Finance department for a Financial Analyst.

What You Will Do

You will be responsible for supporting the development and monitoring of the employee salary and benefits budget, developing overhead and costing rates used for allocations and external reporting, calculating various year-end reserves, and analyzing payroll data and maintaining reports for use in costing analyses. As well ensuring reasonable allocation of Employee Benefit Costs to Operating and Capital budgets and initiate updates/changes as required

As the Financial Analyst, you will be monitoring on a corporate basis undistributed salary and benefits costs and determining the impact to operating and capital budgets; Coordinating with Business Partner Support teams for explanation on major variances and corrections as required, clarifying and resolving budget-related issues and providing year-end projections for board reports and other external reporting requirements. Additionally, compiling data to support collective bargaining union negotiations

Serving as a subject matter expert to support upgrades, patches and issues resolution on financial systems matters such as, WBS Module, Retro pay Cycle distribution. Overseeing the timely production of SAP reports crucial for cost analysis and development and assessing new SAP wage types to ensure it is mapped to the proper GL account

Maintaining and update benefit rate model, including benefits such as sick pay, health & dental, TTC pension, vacation and statutory holiday etc. for use in various costing exercises (total cost of work hours)

You will also be responsible for collaborating with IT to ensure cost data is accurate and readily available including: validating the Payroll Reporting Tool (Power Pivot) and Payroll Analysis Report (Yearly wage, premium and allowance payments by union)

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related discipline, along with related experience; or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent
  • A professional finance/accounting designation is an asset
  • Sound experience in financial planning, budgeting, analysis & management; performance measurement; strategic and service (business) planning support and evaluation; and policy development, in a large public or private sector organization
  • Experience in a corporate oversight role leading operating and/or capital budget formulation, with extensive knowledge of generally accepted budgeting principles, techniques, and systems in a large public organization
  • Sound experience in the preparation of financial plans, budgetary reporting and financial analysis for a managerial audience
  • Sound knowledge of, and working experience with, cost control principles, methods, practices; performance measures; and financial research methods and techniques
  • Strong research, analytical and conceptual thinking skills, with the capacity to understand complex financial, service, operating and policy issues, program interrelationships and the potential results and outcomes of policy actions and the ability to conceptualize and develop options and recommendations to support decision-making
  • Sound knowledge in MS Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel (including Macros, Pivot Tables, Lookup Functions and Data Analysis Functions) and other computerized applications related to financial planning, budgeting, accounting, costing and cost control
  • Strong strategic, lateral thinking, planning, and problem solving skills with the capacity to effectively plan, develop, implement and evaluate complex administrative and operating systems
  • Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills, including writing reports and delivering presentations with complex technical information to senior leadership teams
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and demands in a rapidly changing environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning due to rapidly changing conditions and issues
  • Demonstrated work experience with SAP is an asset
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees
