ABOUT THE ROLE:

As the Director of Retail Workforce Planning & Business Optimization, you will develop a labour strategy that drives business success while ensuring exceptional client and employee experiences. This role encompasses managing staffing, scheduling, payroll, and labour modeling for over 130 retail stores across Canada. You will lead a team dedicated to refining labour processes through automation, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting, while collaborating with senior stakeholders to leverage data-driven insights for cost efficiency.

A crucial aspect of this position is the ability to communicate data and financials effectively, telling a compelling story that highlights the human impact behind the numbers. You understand employee perspectives and provide insights that inform strategic decisions.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Strategic Planning & Optimization:

  • Develop and execute long-term staffing and labour strategies, adapting to business needs.
  • Manage payroll budgets and maintain optimal store capacity.
  • Collaborate with leadership on retail workload initiatives aligned with business goals.
  • Lead budget cycles and identify store optimization opportunities.
  • Implement advanced scheduling algorithms for balanced client and employee needs.
  • Design retail incentives to boost sales and productivity.

Data-Driven Decision Making:

  • Use advanced analytics to generate insights for strategic decisions and operational performance.
  • Establish benchmarks and targets for staffing and payroll.
  • Oversee payroll budget management and optimize reporting tools.
  • Enhance retail reporting for senior leadership and maintain dashboard insights.
  • Conduct ad hoc analysis as needed.

Operational Excellence:

  • Oversee the store scheduling process for compliance and effectiveness.
  • Improve labour allocation models based on detailed trend analysis.
  • Manage payroll data processing within workforce management systems.
  • Conduct store visits for feedback on scheduling improvements.
  • Stay updated on workforce optimization technologies and collaborate with stakeholders.

Team Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Develop and engage a high-performing team focused on excellence and innovation.
  • Build relationships with cross-functional teams for labour optimization strategies.
  • Lead labour strategy meetings and mentor team members in data-driven decision-making.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Minimum 10 years in a senior managerial role within a high-volume, complex retail environment.
  • Bachelor's degree required in Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, or equivalent experience
  • Proven ability to work effectively across functions, building strong relationships and successfully bringing people together to drive alignment and achieve shared goals and consensus
  • Retail finance experience required (3-5 years), labour strategy, workforce planning and/or field experience a plus
  • Advanced expert skills in Excel, with proven ability in developing budget models and detailed analysis from scratch
  • Experienced in leading and developing teams of analysts, with a focus on strategic vision and business acumen
  • Proficiency in leveraging data analytics to drive strategic decisions and optimize business performance
  • Detail oriented, highly comfortable with navigating large data sets from multiple sources with high degree of accuracy and translating it into actionable strategies
  • Thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, collaborative retail environment
  • Strong financial and business acumen with the ability to identify and mitigate potential risks
  • Ability to communicate effectively to a diverse audience - verbal and written - throughout all levels of the organization with high degree of comfort presenting and responding to senior level executives
  • Self-motivated with superior time management and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel occasionally to stores and conferences (15-20% of time)
