What is the opportunity?

General Ledger Governance & Advisory (GL G&A) within the CFO Controls Office (CCO) is the Centre of Excellence for attestation administration and balance sheet controls. As an integral member of the CCO, the incumbent will lead the GL G&A team and be responsible for managing RBC's balance sheet attestation process and ensuring adherence to the RBC Enterprise GL Attestation Policy.

What will you do?

  • Establish and promote the GL G&A team as the Centre of Excellence for RBC's monthly balance sheet attestation process.
  • Maintain RBC's Enterprise GL Attestation Policy by proposing appropriate policy updates and providing guidance and support to promote compliance.
  • Lead monthly Enterprise Attestation Council (EAC) by reviewing reconciliation and attestation results and trends and strengthening governance and accountability over balance sheet controls.
  • Lead a team of finance professionals to continuously improve financial control processes, governance, and oversight.
  • Draw and deliver insights from data analysis and understanding of reconciliation and attestation issues identified through monthly attestation results, deep dive analysis, data analytics, KRIs and KPIs.
  • Elevate knowledge across all stakeholders via training and education programs.
  • Data Steward for the PEGA GL Attestation application, SQL database, and GL G&A Tableau server.
  • Develop strong controls framework to ensure data elements are accurate, complete, and timely.
  • Manage and recommend budget spend on technology to drive efficiencies and automation and set longer term strategic technology solutions.
  • Collaborate with Internal Audit to enhance monitoring effectiveness of the enterprise attestation process.
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects as directed by Senior Director, CFO Controls Office (Innovation/GL Gov/ESG).

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation
  • 8+ years of relevant work experience
  • Strong leader with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Organizational awareness and proven impact and influence skills with senior leaders
  • Strategic business acumen with proven project & business execution skills
  • Solid relationship management skills with collaborative mindset since frequent interaction with key contacts is necessary to be successful in this role; specifically able to act as a change agent.
  • Strong leadership and team building skills
  • Significant analytics and thought leadership
  • Proven creative thinker capable of solving complex problems and resolving issues that may be nebulous.
  • Advanced user proficiency with computer applications, such as Tableau, Microsoft Excel, Word, Visio, and PowerPoint, spreadsheet/financial accounting skills, and any other related accounting software.

Nice-to-have

  • Solid understanding of RBC's businesses, Balance Sheet structure and business rules that drive financial reporting
  • Experience with developing SQL queries to research, analyze, and troubleshoot data and to create business reports
  • Experience with RPA (Robotic Process Automation)
