The Women's & Children's Health (WCH) Program at Unity Health provides inpatient and outpatient care in the areas of obstetrics and gynecology and pediatrics. Our ambulatory clinics (Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology) at St. Michaels are high volume, interprofessional clinics that strive to provide quality care to all.

The Operations Leader is a part of the WCH leadership team and joins a team of dynamic, innovative, and dedicated healthcare professionals. Reporting to the Clinical Leaders Manager (or designate), the Operations Leader will oversee daily operations and performance improvement initiatives for Clinics at 61 Queen with a focus on best practice, quality of care, patient experience and patient flow.

The Operations Leader is responsible for the day to day running of the clinical team and will lead the ambulatory team through the planning, organizing, development and implementation of improvement initiatives in the Clinics through the application of LEAN quality improvement skills, utilizing data driven decision making, incorporating evidence into the decision-making process, and thinking of the system as a whole when analyzing data, making decisions and designing and implementing standard operating procedures, policies and change initiatives.

Responsibilities

In conjunction with manager:

  • Helps oversee the day to day operation of the Ambulatory Clinics
  • Collaboratively works with the team and program leadership to identify opportunities for innovation, quality improvement and efficiencies in all of our WCH ambulatory clinics
  • Leads daily commination with staff via huddles, email and 1-1 conversations to ensure the smooth running of Clinics
  • Ensures adequate staffing for the Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics at 61 Queen, including scheduling as per Collective Agreement requirements
  • Communicates and coordinates with relevant stakeholders for the efficient operation of clinics including staff and physicians
  • Develops, implements and oversees new staff onboarding and orientation
  • Mentors and coaches staff to ensure optimum performance
  • Provides expertise in the development and standardization of practices and protocols for the ambulatory clinic best practices
  • Works closely with the managers to recommend and implement innovative solutions
  • Assigns and delegates work to the team and monitors completion
  • Tracks and trends data and uses data analytics to inform decision making to improve access to care, patient flow and clinic efficiency
  • Develops and implement strategies to improve work flow processes for better efficiencies in terms of service delivery, work load, productivity, scheduling etc.;
  • Other duties and responsibilities consistent with the job classification as assigned or requested
  • Create and foster an environment and/or relationship with staff that encourages a continuous learning environment;
  • Completes other administrative duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Professional Registration:

  • Regulated Health Professional with a minimum Bachelor's degree in Nursing/Health Discipline required
  • Registration in good standing with a regulatory college

Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of ambulatory operations and patient care needs in an ambulatory setting
  • Experience working in Women's Health, with demonstrated clinical expertise in the delivery of patient care.
  • Two (2) years previous Coordinator/Operations Leader/Team Leader or other equivalent demonstrated leadership experience and skills in a clinical environment
  • Demonstrated project management/quality improvement experience and skills
  • Experience implementing strategies that effectively manage change

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and related best practice guidelines.
  • Strong computer skills including ability to utilize Microsoft Office applications (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Visio) and comfort with clinical informatics/electronic patient record applications
  • Ability to identify, collect and use relevant data to drive improvement
  • Satisfactory Attendance Record and ability to maintain same


This contract is for 12 months.
