The Mint is hiring a Process Engineer who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Applied Research & Materials Engineering, the Process Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise and Engineering support in the applied research projects and activities as well as Materials Engineering and manufacturing in the Winnipeg Facilities. The incumbent will be responsible for applying rigorous methods for all research activities including literature review, cross-industry research, concept development, experimental design, testing, analysis and reporting and implementation. This incumbent will also be responsible for develop engineering solutions and continuous improvement that can resolve production issues, implement and improve new processes.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Provide expertise to support production for reliable and effective manufacturing as it relates to chemical / mechanical / metallurgical issues; review and develop processes for a predictable and repeatable manufacturing operation
  • Design and develop a new process and process specifications to meet design and manufacturing requirements
  • Propose, develop, review and approve relevant detailed specifications and drawings required for project implementation
  • Participate in problem analysis and solution recommendation
  • Lead and participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement projects relating to processes, materials, machinery and technology
  • Leads and conduct research projects to promote innovation for new products and processes; applies scientific methodology while utilizing technical knowledge and project management skills, in collaboration with internal and external technical expertise/resources within Operations and Commercial teams
  • Provide hands-on skills to complete projects related to precious metal casting, processing and material handling
  • Collect and evaluate data
  • Utilizes sound project management methods, providing clarity of priorities and objectives and establishing regular tracking and reporting to ensure milestones, key performance indicators and deliverables are met
  • Create best practices and innovative solutions to streamline operations.
  • Participate in the review of Environmental and Health and Safety requirements relating to the manufacturing process
  • Develop Process Control Plans (PCP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Total Preventive Maintenance (TPM) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) documents as they relate to the manufacturing process

This opening is to be filled on a hybrid working arrangement, and the incumbent will be required to work from the Winnipeg location generally on an average of 3-4 days per week which could change based on operational requirements.

Qualifications:

Languages

  • English proficiency is essential

Education & Designation

  • University degree in Engineering with specialization in Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Professional Engineer Designation or Engineering Intern

Experience

  • 5 years of related business experience. Experience in a manufacturing environment is an asset
  • Problem identification and resolution using an experimental, scientific approach is required
  • Aptitude and ability to understand complex equipment and processes

Additional Qualifications

  • Technical knowledge and experience in non-ferrous and/or precious metal processing, metal forming and metal finishing is an asset
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with attention to detail and data accuracy. Knowledge and experience using six-sigma methodology is an asset
  • Proven project management skills is an asset. Knowledge and experience using FMEA, DOE, and FEA, is an asset
  • Prior exposure to ISO environments and work experience in Lean Manufacturing / Lean Enterprise environment is an asset
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Shows a high level of integrity
  • Ability to be autonomous and a self-starter
  • Able to collaborate with other team members, with the ability to influence and persuade others while also being open to receiving suggestions and feedback
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
