The team


BCLC provides the games, technology and oversight to manage lottery, casino and sports betting online at PlayNow.com and at retail and Casino locations across BC. Our operations group is what makes it all happen, through day-to-day operations, project improvements, sales management, facilities, business intelligence and innovation. This team of passionate professionals with a diverse array of backgrounds is directly accountable for driving revenue for the province. They work together as one group to ensure clear direction for BCLC's priorities across all our lines of business, ensuring a high degree of player experience and entertainment in each of the games we offer.

The Enterprise Games team brings product management expertise to our games across all our products: lottery, casino & sports, defining vision and strategy, creating roadmaps, prioritizing requirements, collaborating with cross functional internal teams, monitoring and analyzing performance and customer advocacy.

The role


The Sports Product Specialist is responsible for activities relating to PlayNow's sport betting operations. Reporting to the Manager, Online Sports, this role must combine a thorough understanding of sports betting with an extensive knowledge of professional and collegiate sports and current events, in order to maximize sports gambling revenues and limit liabilities for BCLC and ensuring that product integrity is maintained to the highest standard. The role will play a crucial role in managing day-to-day sports betting operations, ensuring smooth processing of bets, monitoring odds, and maintaining accuracy across various betting markets. You will work collaboratively with numerous internal and external teams in order to optimize processes, troubleshoot issues, and ensure an optimal experience for our players while maximizing engagement.

What you will accomplish

  • Play a crucial role in managing day-to-day online sports betting operations, ensuring smooth processing of bets, monitoring odds, and maintaining accuracy across various betting markets
  • Work closely with the sportsbook, trading services and product teams to optimize processes, troubleshoot issues, and deliver exceptional service to our customers
  • Oversee the daily operations of the sports betting platform, ensuring betting content is available on the website and all bets are processed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Working closely with the Consumer Services team to resolve customer inquiries and issues related to sports betting in a timely, professional and efficient manner
  • Monitor live sports events and news and ensure odds are adjusted accordingly to reflect changing conditions in real time
  • Track the performance of sports betting activity, trends and campaigns and use data analytics to make informed decisions and adjustments to strategies to enhance player engagement while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies
  • Work with the risk management team to manage liabilities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, communications, B2B, Business Insights and Consumer Services with a focus on enhancing Player engagement
  • Stay up to date with sports trends, betting markets, and competitor activities to provide insights for improvement.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new betting products and features

Qualifications and skills

  • Degree or Diploma in Business or Sports Management or related field
  • Previous experience in sports betting, casino operations, or a related industry is highly desirable
  • A combination of education, experience, and demonstrated skills may be considered
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate live sporting events

What will make you successful

  • You have a thorough understanding and a passion for following a variety of relevant professional and college/amateur sports leagues on TV, social media and other online sources
  • You have extensive knowledge of sports betting online and previous experience in online gaming operations (preferably in Sports)
  • You are a self starter, exercise logical thinking and able to use sound judgement, prioritize tasks, and work with established deadlines with a high attention to detail
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • To best meet the needs of our players, this work week will be Thursday to Monday, 3pm-11pm
