The Lead Data Engineer is responsible for design, implementation and support of petabyte scale data pipelines running in a GCP environment. The data engineering team looks to them for technical expertise and leadership. They work closely with data analytics and data science teams to reconcile requirements and facilitate their work.
In this role, you can expect to be responsible for:
Data Architecture & System Design
Design data architecture to meet business requirements with guidance from an understanding of best practices for underlying technologies to promote reliability, efficiency and consistency.
Decide upon and leverage the most suitable technology for respective goals having evaluated all available options.
Review designs from other data engineering team members and collaborate for optimal solutions
Have a holistic view of data infrastructure and flow
Clearly explain design decisions and technical information to non-technical stakeholders
Data Development
Implement pipelines and systems with the highest standard of code
Work with data orchestration technologies
Develop within a data-ops framework leveraging CI/CD workflows
Review code of other data engineers and manage pull requests / code reviews in a source control environment
Identify opportunities for improvements in existing code and prioritize those against existing workload
Data Governance
Work closely with the Data science manager & data director to empower data governance
Evaluate and implement governance technologies
Execute security strategy
Team Integration
Collaborate closely with internal teams & stakeholders to understand requirements and limitations
Maintain upstream relationships and appreciate roadmap implications for data engineering
Manage relationships with and evaluate products from external vendors with respect to potential value, risk & migration/implementation costs
Effectively handle data incidents clearly communicating timelines and forward solutions
Foster a data-driven culture through connection. Proactively provide data support and seek out value add.
To be successful in this role, your background includes...
Bachelor's degree in a related field
6+ years of related experience
Detail-oriented and innate problem solving ability
Deep understanding of data architecture and system design
Highly comfortable in a cloud environment
Experience with data orchestration tools such as DBT, Airflow & Dataform
Expertise in SQL, Python
Knowledge of data governance principles and technologies

$172,000 - $215,000 a year
The typical hiring range listed above is specific to candidates located in British Columbia. The salary will be determined based on your knowledge, skills and competencies, and you'll have room to grow after you join!
