Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant will have a pivotal role with the Geotech group of companies. This position is responsible for participating and supervising the accounting and reporting for group entities within the organization. Key functions for this position include financial, management, and tax reporting to support the strategic direction and operations of the company, providing analytics to support significant business decisions, ensuring compliance with regulatory and tax filings, leading/supporting special projects. This person must be an enthusiastic individual with strong work ethics, excellent communication skills, and highly attentive to details.


Key Responsibilities

Detailed responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for full cycle accounting (balance sheet and P&L), reporting, tax compliance of multiple business units.
  • Responsible for month-end and quarter-end close, reconciliation, reporting and year-end preparation of audit working papers.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to ensure compliance with accounting standards, statutory and tax filing requirements.
  • Analyze and ensure the timely and accurate financial information for management review and presentation.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget, capex plan, cashflow forecast.
  • Maintain the fixed asset sub-ledger and reconcile to general ledger accounts.
  • Maintain and reconcile the Bank, AR and AP sub-ledger accounts to general ledger accounts.
  • Record routine to complex intercompany transactions, including monthly reconciliation of intercompany balances.
  • Process and analyze accounts receivable invoices and ageing.
  • Prepare government reporting and remittances (GST, PST, Receiver General, etc).
  • Supervise/analyze/perform/record bank reconciliations for multiple business units and bank accounts.
  • Supervise/analyze/process/record accounts payable and vendor payment.
  • Support/lead accounting related special projects.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as required.


Professional Experience / Qualifications

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field.
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) in good standing.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-designation accounting experience, preferably in the engineering, manufacturing or construction industries.
  • Thorough understanding and application of IFRS.
  • Proven experience with, but not limited to:
    • analyzing and evaluating operating results against budget and forecasts,
    • preparing, monitoring and analyzing of financial accounting, managerial reporting, and tax compliance,
    • providing key decision support to senior management in preparation of financial, management and tax reporting,
    • analyzing of complex operations and providing support and recommendation in relation to proper accounting and tax treatment,
    • supervising, managing and reviewing the work of team members,
    • leading, supporting and documentation in the development of new processes, procedures and analytical reports.


Skills and Knowledge Required

    • Strong MS Office skills, with advanced skills in Excel, Power BI, SharePoint, Teams.
    • Working experience with mid to large ERP systems. Prior experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV is an asset.
    • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a high degree of discretion. Ability to deal effectively with all levels of staff within different functional areas of the company.
    • Work efficiently with a high degree of accuracy and exceptional attention to detail.
    • Must be able to work well independently or in a team setting.
    • Must have ability to multi-task and use sound judgement to prioritize activities.
    • Must be have a proactive and problem solving mindset.


Compensation

$70,000 - $90,000, commensurate with experience.
