We are currently seeking a Finance Analytics Specialist to join our team.

Under managerial direction, the Finance Analytics Specialist acts as the subject matter expert when it comes to business and functional ownership of key analytical systems and applications. This role provides data analysis, designing of system processes, and various reporting. This role assists with product performance analysis and plays a central role in supporting the balance sheet planning process. The Finance Analytics Specialist enhances, improves and sustains the Finance department's role and brand within the Credit Union. This role contributes to the creation of an environment that supports teamwork, collaboration and the achievement of results within the department.

Here's what would be included as a part of your typical day

  1. Product Analysis & Reporting: Utilizing analytical systems, produces and conducts product performance analysis and reporting, including funds transfer pricing and product profitability allocations. Leads the creation and enhancements of different reporting using tools such as Oracle Analytics Cloud or Microsoft Power BI.
  2. Delivery of System Outputs: Ensures timely and successful completion of regular deliverables to stakeholders. Provides end-user functionalities including but not limited to Asset Liability Management (ALM), key Regulatory Returns, Internal Balance Sheet Planning and Allocation.
  3. System Change Management: Collaborates with internal and external contacts to develop, validate, and implement changes to analytical systems, without impacting automated finance accounting processes. Provides recommendations and alternatives in solutioning problems.
  4. Systems Implementations: Acts as the finance lead in systems implementation projects, including liaising between finance, IT & agile leads, gathering requirements, designing new systems, evaluating options and performing testing in systems including extracting and analyzing data sets. Expands the capability of Oracle Financial Services Analytical Applications in the areas of financial system integration, financial systems.
  5. Relationship Building: Serves as primary financial systems analytics resource for business units across the organization. Liaises and builds trusted working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  6. Processes & Controls: Ensures processes are followed to maintain responsive and reliable financial analytic systems; supports technologies and processes relating to internal and external audits; partners with IT senior leadership to ensure appropriate systems and information security controls are in place; and supports the review of business practices to ensure the integrity of these systems.
  7. Strategic Projects: Provides support and assistance with strategic projects including but not limited to, mergers, enterprise systems, business transformation, and federal continuance; and acts as a subject matter expert in the areas of financial system integration, financial system implementation, and internal control design and project management.

Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance or in a related field required
  • In the progress of working towards becoming, or is a FRM or CFA charter holder; alternatively, designated accountant CPA (CGA, CA or CMA)
  • Canadian Securities Course certificate is an asset
  • 5 years of experience in an analytical finance role within a service-oriented financial services organization is preferable, along with demonstrated proficiency in complex financial analysis and problem solving required
  • Experience with systems integration and major system implementation projects involving different data work such as mapping
  • Takes responsibility for self-development and continuous learning to achieve required knowledge for the role

  • Ability to operate in a team environment with a focus on collaboration
  • Demonstrates the intellectual capacity to manage multiple sources of diverse and complex information, and applies knowledge and experience to resolve issues
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and balance multiple responsibilities
  • Well-developed ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Experience with Oracle Financial Services Analytical Applications is a distinguishing asset
  • Working knowledge of applicable regulatory financial institution guidelines
  • In-depth knowledge of different capital market financial instruments
  • Knowledge of Financial theories and experience with budgeting systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI
  • Advanced proficiency with SQL table setups and query language
  • Displays an understanding of risk and risk ownership by being able to demonstrate adherence to policies and procedures.
