We are looking for an Advisor, Process Safety, to support the daily operations at BC Works, an aluminum smelter, by implementing, coaching, and monitoring the effectiveness of our Process Safety standards, ensuring a safe and compliant work environment.

This is a great opportunity for a detail-oriented and proactive leader to play a key part in implementing and maintaining the Process Safety standard at BC Works. By collaborating with a centralized team, you'll help standardize processes and drive continuous improvement across the site, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Reporting to the Principal Advisor, Risk Management Atlantic, and working a Monday to Friday schedule, you will be:

  • Working safely in accordance with Rio Tinto safety standards and cultivating the company values.
  • Leading, coordinating, and supporting the deployment of the Process Safety standard at BC Works.
  • Facilitating process hazard analyses and collaborating on implementing corrective actions.
  • Participating in process safety incident investigations, identifying root causes and corrective measures.
  • Training and mentoring site teams on Process Safety protocols and best practices.
  • Collaborating with the centralized Process Safety team members to standardize and efficiently deploy best practices across the site.
  • Reporting key safety performance indicators and process health metrics to the site Management Committee for ongoing support and decision-making.

What you'll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Chemical, Process, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering, or Chemistry). Advanced degrees or extensive industrial experience may also be considered.
  • At least 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in Process Safety, including hands-on application in industrial settings.
  • Strong background in knowledge and risk management practices.
  • Proven expertise in process hazard analysis techniques (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP, Bow-Tie, ALARP, LOPA, and consequence modelling), with experience as a facilitator, scribe, or participant.
  • Experience in incident investigation techniques, including root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Skilled at identifying and implementing practical, proportionate solutions to complex safety challenges.
  • Strong leadership and facilitation skills, including experience leading meetings and process safety reviews.
  • Demonstrated management skills and the ability to operate independently with minimal supervision.
  • A minimum of a valid B.C. Class 7 (Novice) driver's license or equivalent

The base salary range for this role is $111,200 - $166,800 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role.
