About this opportunity:

Our Downstream Commercial Organization has an engaging opportunity for a Senior Manager, Refining Supply to join their organization. This role is accountable for economic selection and optimization of feedstocks and production output across Superior Refinery and the Lloydminster Complex. Leading a Supply team and Production team, including LP Analyst, Sr. Optimization Engineers, Product Supply Coordinator and Crude Analyst. These teams will coordinate the supply to enhance Cenovus group value from Crude across the integrated production network of the Superior Refinery and Lloydminster assets. The role will provide direction to market facing TSL in buying and selling of Crude, setting strategy for Cenovus Crude purchasing and balancing and in supporting Marketing in product volume and placement.

What you'll do:

  • Key participant in Supply/Production planning, whose team develops optimized plans across short-term planning timeframes, through engagement with Refinery Production Planning, TSL, and Marketing

  • Cultivate and demonstrate strong relationships with the refineries, marketing and TSL to ensure that optimization occurs within defined envelopes and that synergistic or expansion opportunities are explored and the potential value prioritized for resourcing availability

  • Provide direction on crude optimization, leading the 'big picture' of supply over the next 1-24 months, optimizing commercial performance of Crude Feedstocks for Cenovus group between Lima, Toledo, and Superior

  • Prioritize Cenovus value across refining supply/production requirements, working with TSL and Marketing to optimize usage of shared logistics.

  • Coach / Mentor refinery Crude/Product Schedulers, Crude Supply Team members to develop necessary skills to grow the supply & production planning organization

  • Develop and implement supply and trading strategies to enhance gross margin across the Value Chains

  • Champion Crude Approval Process and Crude Quality Monitoring Process, helping ensure our assets receive predictable crude within operating limits led by the refineries.

  • Interpret LP Outputs to define robust and agile crude acquisition / optimization, as well as production optimization and placement using sensitivity analysis to enable risk-based decision making as market and refinery conditions pivot during the trade and shipping cycles.

  • Lead near term, mid-term, and long-term strategy development for refinery supply

  • Develop team and others outside the team with technical backfill opportunities to enhance abilities across the organization

  • Lead the team to coordinate with TSL/Marketing/Refining to provide crude availability, product demands and pricing (including working capital considerations) for LP planning and optimization processes.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • University Degree in Engineering (strongly preferred), Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics

  • 16+ years of experience in Oil & Gas, strongly preferring experience in Refining and Production Planning / Economics and Scheduling.

  • Strong ability to analyze complex information & details, and present findings in a clear concise format

  • Advanced technical understanding of crude quality, refinery constraints, production planning / Crude supply chain

  • Experience with liquid commodities

  • Strong Collaborator able to respectfully and effectively influence others with potentially conflicting priorities.

  • Strong Communicator who develops credibility with diverse organizations from operations to executive management, clearly communicating plans, values, and risks

  • Intermediate to Advanced LP Model Interpretation (model running not required)

  • Intermediate to Advanced MS Excel skills with familiarity of Visual Basic (VBA), SQL, R/Python, Power BI, and other MS Office suite

  • Price fundamentals, risk based decision making, and risk management knowledge will be an asset

  • Intermediate understanding of trading fundamentals, market structure will be an asset

  • Base knowledge of U.S. and Canadian Crude & Product markets for Superior and Canada, developing to expert level

  • Sound understanding of logistical interfaces between pipe, rail and marine transportation interconnects - Ability to respond effectively to the needs of diverse situations while enhancing Cenovus Group value.
