The Opportunity

Our Information Services team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing Energy Marketing team, a non-regulated affiliate Gas, Power and Emissions marketing and trading business. We are seeking a team-mate in Calgary; a tech savvy individual who wants to be part of a cross-functional team, invested in delivering value through technology for our Energy Marketing team. This person will collaborate with our business team across Calgary and Houston as well as with a distributed end to end IS Energy Marketing team throughout the entire lifecycle of plan, build, and run.

What you'll do

As a IS Middle Office Business Analyst, you will work closely with the Energy Marketing team (Front, Middle, and Back Office) and IS end to end team to act as a key strategic partner, leveraging data, systems, and processes to drive business capabilities and operational efficiency within the energy trading and risk management (ETRM) functions. This role spans multiple business units (Trading, Risk, Credit, Compliance, Operations and Accounting) and collaborates cross-functionally to identify opportunities for improvement, enhance reporting and analytics, and streamline workflows.

Risk Management & Middle Office Functions:

  • Act as a liaison between the Middle Office (MO) and technical teams, ensuring alignment between business and technology for risk management processes within the Endur ETRM system.
  • Providing the Middle Office with technical solutions to monitor position limits, ensuring compliance with internal and external risk policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Middle Office with developing automated reporting and monitoring tools required for market risk monitoring.
  • Support the transaction lifecycle, leveraging Endur and associated systems.
  • Deliver technical support ad-hoc profit & loss (P&L) explanations, financial mark-to-market (MTM) reporting, and Value at Risk (VaR).

Endur System Configuration & Optimization:

  • Collaborate in the configuration and optimization of the Endur system, including managing Active Position Manager (APM), Emissions, Options, and other relevant functionalities to support risk and trading teams.
  • Ensure that risk-related features such as curves, VaR, and exposure management are properly configured, maintained, and enhanced within Endur.
  • Participate in the design and delivery of new functionality required for business process change, including risk-related features in the Endur system.
  • Configure and enhance ETRM (Endur) system functionality, such as Active Position Manager (APM), EOD, Emissions, Options.
  • Enhance data queries and reporting to support risk management and P&L analysis, ensuring that the necessary data is readily available for effective decision-making.
  • Provide market intelligence and risk analytics to support new product and market expansion initiatives, ensuring that the risk implications are fully understood and modeled in Endur.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Coordinate regular meetings with the Front, Middle, and Back Office to align on priorities, requirements, and implementation progress, focusing on risk management needs.
  • Support the modeling of complex deals, including asset structures, options, and non-linear transactions to ensure risk and market exposure is properly captured and reported within Endur.
  • Work closely with the Risk, Credit, Compliance, and Operations teams to identify areas for improvement in risk reporting, workflows, and trading strategies.

Continuous Improvement & Support:

  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in the Middle Office and Front Office risk management processes and workflows, particularly related to ETRM system functionality.
  • Work with the IS team to ensure the DataWarehouse architecture, test environments, and performance meets business requirements.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of system configurations, processes, and procedures to ensure that business continuity is achieved.
  • Understand product support best practices, test strategy and planning.
  • Participate in delivery of new functionality required for business process change including definition, development, implementation, and maintenance of software solutions for growing business including market data analytics and monitoring tool suite.
  • Adhere to TC Energy standards on change management, problem management, and incident tracking.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Business Administration, Engineering, Finance or a related field
  • 8-10 years of experience in a middle office or business analyst role within the energy industry
  • Strong understanding of ETRM systems, data structures, and reporting capabilities (preferably Openlink Endur)
  • Hands-on experience with ETRM system configuration, process improvement, and cross-functional collaboration
  • Knowledge of trading, risk management, and accounting principles
  • Proficient in data analysis, modeling, and visualization using tools like SQL, Excel, and Power BI
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated strong partnership, teamwork and communication skills with a focus on customer service
  • Willingness and ability to adapt and learn new technologies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a Gas, Power, and Emissions commodity trading environment
  • ETRM implementation experience
  • Results-oriented with strong identification and initiation of continuous improvement opportunities and the ability to manage change
  • Strategic mindset with experience in managing many initiatives with strong execution and implementation skills
  • Demonstrates initiative and makes sound judgement to effectively resolve issues
