About this opportunity:

The Incident Management Specialist is accountable for providing technical and functional leadership in Health & Safety with a strong focus on improving incident management systems and human and organizational performance (HOP). The incumbent will champion the implementation of Health & Safety processes that are aligned with Cenovus's Operational Integrity Management System (COIMS) and ensure compliance to regulatory standards and statutes for all aspects of Health & Safety.

The successful candidate will partner with the line leaders to provide mentorship enhancing understanding of the incident management processes and strengthening investigation capacity to foster continuous learning from our incidents preventing reoccurrence.

This role will be based out of our corporate office in Calgary, AB. Travel to Cenovus sites will be required.

What you'll do:

  • Provide an independent view of risk from operations; intervention may be required based on the risk identified

  • Lead and facilitate learning teams to promote a culture of open dialogue and collective learning

  • Facilitate serious/critical incidents that occur within Cenovus's operations.

  • Assist the entity in developing gap closure plans to close identified gaps and ensure closure plans are be carried out to completion

  • Work with entities to share and effectively apply lessons learned both internally and from external sources

  • Assist in the delivery of yearly strategic goals and objectives laid out in the annual business plan

  • Coach & mentor personnel at our assets on human and organizational performance and Cenovus's Incident Management processes. This includes but not limited to; investigation techniques, root cause analysis, incident classification, data entry into Cenovus's incident management data base, and action development.

  • Perform assurance activities as outlined in the yearly assurance plans to determine effectiveness of the incident management processes at each entity, looking for opportunities to continuously improve.

  • Collaborate with the other individuals within Deployed Health & Safety in similar roles to improve our overall incident management systems.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Occupational Health and Safety Certificate, Diploma, or Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution (Health & Safety Certifications i.e. CRSP, CSP are an asset)

  • Minimum 12 years' experience in a Health & Safety environment performing root cause analysis, incident investigations, safety audits, and inspections is required

  • Excellent communication (written/verbal) and interpersonal skills is required

  • Strong relationship building and facilitation skills with the ability to collaborate with site/corporate personnel

  • Experience in the oil and gas industry is preferred

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate
